REHE2017 in Marburg, Germany

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to inform you herewith about the upcoming 12th International Conference on Relativistic Effects in Heavy-Element Chemistry and Physics (REHE 2017), which will take place in the beautiful university town Marburg, Germany, from September 2 to September 6, 2017. The conference is this time a satellite meeting to the WATOC 2017 in Munich.

The REHE conference series runs since more than 20 years by now and brings together scientists, who are working in the general area of relativistic quantum physics and chemistry. The vast majority of participants is commonly theoretically or computationally oriented.

Marburg is located in the state of Hesse in Germany, not far from Darmstadt, the place where elements 107 to 112 (bohrium, hassium, meitnerium, darmstadtium, roentgenium and copernicium) were discovered and also the elements 113 to 117 were produced. As last year the list of names of the elements of the seventh row of the periodic table was completed, with the latest names nihonium, moscovium, tennessine and oganesson being given to the discovered elements with the numbers 113, 115, 117 and 118, and as new activities are directed to opening up the eighth row, this meeting will have superheavy elements and their properties as one particular focus. Whereas previous REHE conferences revolved mainly around theoretical electronic structure aspects of atoms and molecules containing heavy-elements, we will this time also include a session devoted to nuclear structure theory with introductory lectures to exchange concepts, ideas and methods between the fields.

Research themes and topics covered at the 12th conference in this series thus include :

- Superheavy elements
- Theoretical spectroscopy and properties of heavy-elemental compounds
- Structures and reactivity of heavy-elemental compounds
- Methods in electronic and nuclear structure theory
- Quantum electrodynamic effects
- Violation of fundamental symmetries
- Atomic structure
- Nuclear structure

Registration is open and can be accessed via the conference website. Abstracts for posters and abstracts for posters with the option to be selected also as contributed talks can be submitted now as well. Please note the deadline for early bird registration (May 31, 2017).
