PhD opening in computational biochemistry, Ecole Polytechnique, Paris

par Nord & Ile de France - 22 octobre 2019

A 3-year PHD POSITION is available in the computational biochemistry group at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France, starting next fall.

The project involves the computational design of biomolecular interactions, in collaboration with experimental groups. Possible applications include the development of ribosome inhibitors, enzyme engineering to expand the genetic code, and engineering the conformational landscape of protein kinases. We develop and apply a broad range of simulation tools, including high accuracy molecular dynamics simulations with additive and polarizable force fields. We also develop methods and software for high throughput protein design, including the Proteus software package (proteus.polytechnique.fr). Thus, we recently performed the first complete redesign of a protein using a physics-based energy function (preprinton bioarkiv.org). Depending on the student’s background and goals, the project could focus on one or more of these applications and either use existing methods, develop new ones, or (preferably) both.

The successful candidate should have a degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field, a strong interest in computational biophysics or biochemistry, and a strong academic record.

Computational facilities are good, and the Ecole Polytechnique provides an exciting scientific environment, a 1/2 hour subway ride from downtown Paris.
